Today Bill talks to a good friend, the Executive Assistant Dean for Career Planning and Professional Development at the University of Illinois College of Law, and the Director of the University of Illinois College of Law Leadership Project, Greg Miarecki to talk all about leadership, independence, and learning.
Greg Miarecki leads the University of Illinois College of Law's Office of Career Planning and Professional Development. As Executive Assistant Dean, Greg and his colleagues work to connect employers with great talent from the College of Law. Greg works closely with students and alumni alike to build and market great legal talent. He also works closely with the College's faculty and administrative team on a wide variety of related initiatives, including the recruiting of prospective students, alumni relations and development, and the development of curricular and programming initiatives. Greg also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the College, teaching classes in trial advocacy, small firm practice, and in-house legal practice. He also serves as the lead instructor for the College's required first-year Fundamentals of Legal Practice class.
Prior to arriving at the College in 2011, Greg was a partner in the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn LLP, where he focused on high-stakes, complex commercial and white-collar criminal litigation. Greg has represented some of the world's largest corporations in "bet the company" litigation and developed expertise in trial work and coaching/mentoring of more junior attorneys.
Greg also has extensive experience in founding, leading, and/or revitalizing organizations. For example, Greg served as the chief executive officer of the Chicago Yacht Club and the President of the University of Chicago's Alumni Board of Governors. Currently, Greg serves as the Director of the University of Illinois College of Law's Leadership Project, an initiative designed to promote learning and discussion at the intersection of law and leadership.

José Ochoa is an award-winning Mexican-American entrepreneur, engineer, and business innovation evangelist. They started multi-million-dollar companies in the US and Mexico, including Global Containers & Custom Packaging Inc., a logistics and packaging company, and Reikoku LLC, a consulting company.
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, José has an Engineering degree from Instituto Tecnológico de Chihuahua II and worked as a Packaging Engineer for Delphi, where he immersed himself in operations and logistics for the packaging industry. He was a Global Packaging Engineer for Siemens, designing products and process efficiencies that he pivoted to his own venture. In 2008, José and a partner launched Global Containers and Custom Packaging de México SA de CV to fill an industry gap: integrated packaging and logistics services committed to providing a flawless customer experience.
In 2009 the company expanded to El Paso, Texas, leading to a decade of growth and expansion. In 2019, José and his team won the Bridge Accelerator, an intensive, highly specialized program sponsored by Microsoft. It that selects local suppliers from the border region and ramps up their operations to international business standards to make them more viable members of the border supply chain. The award included $25K, which José used to expand the company’s binational footprint (Mexico/US).
In 2017, Global Containers won the City of El Paso, Texas’ ‘Exporter of the Year’ award, earning José a commendation letter from the former member of the US House of Representatives and Presidential Candidate Beto O’Rourke. Accolades aside, as a successful Latino business innovator, José helps entrepreneurs to start and operate companies in the US and Latin America. His latest venture, Reikoku Consulting, provides growth solutions and guidance for entrepreneurs looking to start a business or for companies wishing to develop a relevant business journey that will create better results for all the parts.

How to Spot Burnout with Manuel Astruc
Burnout is a relatively new term for a fairly common experience. It’s more than just feeling a little “stressed out” because if left unchecked, it can show up as physical, mental, and emotional illness — and can have some pretty devastating impacts down the road. In this episode, Bill talks with a Psychiatrist and Coach, Dr. Manuel Astruc MD. They talk about how he started in his field and how he decided to start his own business. He also shares his experience of going through burnout himself.
Dr. Astruc first became interested in psychiatry during medical school. He realized that his favorite part of rotations was sitting down with patients after his rounds were completed, getting to hear their stories and know them individually.
Dr. Astruc graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine in Psychiatry and has worked as the medical director of the Saratoga Hospital Mental Health Unit, the medical director of Saratoga County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services, and as a coach for entrepreneurs. He’s spent the last 15+ years in private practice in general psychiatry.
With over 50,000 hours of experience helping people find their way out of mental illness, Dr. Astruc loves getting to know his patients and helping them on their journey from despair to hope.
